We get asked to install a lot of curtain rods. The range and variety vary hugely and they have become quite sophisticated over the years. Many curtain rods available today are ‘telescopic’ meaning the overall length of them can easily be adjusted to accomodate varying window widths. A few tips when installing curtain rods:
- check the length of the curtains first and then work out the optimum height of the curtain rod brackets from the floor
- check the wall before drilling to ensure there are no electrical wires or water pipes that could be ‘hit’ when drilling into the wall
- in brick walls we generally do not use the anchors supplied with most curtain rod assemblies as they are generally of low quality. We generally supply a higher quality anchor to ensure the rods are fastened securely to the wall
- ensure measurements are made either side of the window frame to ensure that the final position of the curtain rods are even, so the final appearance is good
- most curtain rod brackets have a clamping screw or mechanism to secure the curtain rod into the bracket. This is a good idea to ensure the curtains and rods cannot come away from the brackets when adjusting the curtains
