Handyman work often involves painting. After hundreds of hours of painting walls, ceilings, doors, shelves, skirting boards, window frames, window sills and the likes we have good experience in all aspects of painting and offer these tips:

  • brushes – don’t spend a lot of money on expensive brushes. A reasonable quality brush generally does a good job. Many paint stores try and convince you to spend big dollars on brushes. You wont notice any difference.
  • while waiting for paint to dry wrap brushes and rollers in cling wrap! This stops them drying out
  • use cheap disposable paint trays – don’t waste time washing them, its simply not worth the time!
  • use good quality paints. This is an area NOT to scrimp on. We like Dulux and Taubmans paints
  • do the prep work properly. This means remove mould, flaky paint, dust and dirt and scrape and sand before painting! Miss this step at your peril!
  • always use drop sheets. Spills can and do happen and drop sheets can save you a lot of pain!
  • obvious, but on walls always start at the top, cutting in and work down!
