We get many requests to change light bulbs in businesses, houses and apartments in the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney. Light bulb technology has changed enormously over the last 10 years. The modern light bulb comes in many types and varieties and the technology used. They include:

  • Incandescent – the traditional filament light bulb used for more than 100 years
  • L.E.D. light bulbs. These use light emitting diodes to create highly efficient lighting. L.E.D. light bulbs typically use 80 to 90 percent less energy than incandescent bulbs and are now the top choice for many home owners
  • Compact fluorescent light bulbs. These bulbs are a modern take on the traditional fluorescent batten style tubes. They are high efficiency and use integrated starting technology.

Light bulb changing can include changing fluorescent starters, cleaning the housing and light fitting and checking wattages and ensuring any changes in light bulb technology is compatible with the fitting. Generally, because the wattage of high efficient modern bulbs is lower than old technology bulbs, there is not a problem in terms of exceeding the maximum wattage of the light fitting. Obviously we do not get involved in wiring or anything requiring a licensed electrician.
