Its amazing to see we are already almost half way through the year. We thought it would be worthwhile listing a few frequently asked questions around our handyman services. Our range of work is very broad and if we cannot help you, chances are we can refer you to a tradie that can assist you.
Can you build us a new deck? Yes we can. In recent years the range of materials that have become available for decking has expanded considerably. Known a ‘composite’ decking or timber composite this decking material is environmentally friendly, being manufactured from recycled timber, combined with other materials like plastics, bamboo and similar materials. The benefits of this material is that they are virtually maintenance free. There is no painting, oiling or applying any finish required. It is easy to work with, from a building point of view and most of all is termite resistant. The pricing is slightly higher than ‘traditional alternatives’ like treated pine or decking hardwoods but savings are made over the life of the deck with virtually no upkeep required. Worth thinking about. This video from Bunnings shows their Ecodeck range being installed on a deck:
Can you paint ornate ceilings? We certainly can. Many houses and older apartments in the eastern suburbs were built in the era when decorative plaster work was all the rage. Ceilings were often made from horse hair and plaster. The craftsmanship and detail in some of the ceilings and cornice work we have seen has been astounding and it is well worth spending the effort to display them in their full glory. Whilst you could possibly use a long nap roller (or even spray) our experience is that using a good old fashioned brush is by far the best was to ensure that the newly applied paint really gets into the nooks and crannies in the ornate ceiling. It can be far more time consuming to paint an ornate ceiling than a ‘modern’ gyprocked flat ceiling and this will be reflected in our quotation. We will only use the best quality paints, most of which have anti mould and anti bacterial agents built into them.
Can you assemble a shed we bought? This is actually quite a common request. Many people find that having a decent size garden shed allows them to securely store their gardening tools and even set up a small home workshop in some instances. There is a huge range of galvanised iron, aluminium and colorbond sheds available from Bunnings and the likes. People often find, that having acquired the shed and got it home that they are not quite up to the task of assembling it and that is where we come in. We have the tools and instruction reading skills coupled with lots of assembly experience to assemble the shed in no time. We take care to ensure all fasteners are tightened properly.
Can you fix our kitchen cabinets? Again, this is a common request for a handyman. Very often customers have kitchen cupboard doors that have broken hinges. Some care needs to be taken to ensure that the correct replacement hinges are sourced, as many hinges look the same but actually fit and function differently – we can often assist with obtaining the correct replacement hardware. Broken lazy susans are another job that we see quite often. It may be that the bearings have seized or broken and we have replaced several of these units. Re-positioning shelving in kitchen cupboards or even cutting down existing shelves or making up a new shelf are common request – all of which we can help with.
Whatever the handyman job is that you require, we welcome your enquiry and look forward to working with you.
