We get asked to look at electronic jobs from time to time. Depending on the job we can often do basic fault finding to determine if we can get a piece of electronic equipment running. We were asked to setup a set top box for an owner of an old Panasonic television set that dated back to the 1990’s and was not capable of receiving digital signals or the ‘newly available’ stations like 7-mate etc.

We basically followed the wiring diagram supplied with the set top box, which in this instance meant connected 2 sets of flying leads between th A.V. inputs on the television and the set top box. The antenna was connected into the back of the set top box. We connected the plug pack power supply to the set top box. Once everything was connected up we set up the electronic scan tuning which scans the v.h.f. and u.h.f. bands and tunes in all available stations. We then explained to the customer the a.v. selection required on the existing television remote control and then showed them how the remote control for the set top box operated. The old television is now able to view all digital stations and the owner was very happy!
